Connecting to Vehicle

Learn how to connect the ProformanceLink adapter to your truck's diagnostic port.

Connecting Your Device to the Vehicle

Establishing a solid connection between your ProformanceLink hardware and the vehicle is the foundation of accurate diagnostics. Follow this guide to get started.

1. Locate the Diagnostic Port

Heavy-duty trucks and light-duty vehicles use different connector types.

Heavy-Duty Trucks (Class 7-8)

Most American trucks (Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt, etc.) use a 9-Pin J1939 port. It is usually located under the dashboard on the driver’s side. [Image of J1939 9-pin connector location in truck cab]

Light/Medium Duty

Vehicles like the Ford F-Series or Isuzu N-Series typically use a standard 16-pin OBDII port located near the steering column.

2. Step-by-Step Connection

  1. Inspect the Port Check for dust, debris, or bent pins. A poor connection can lead to "ECU Not Found" errors.
  2. Plug in the Adapter For 9-pin connectors, align the groove, push in, and twist the locking ring clockwise until it clicks.
  3. Check the LEDs - Solid Red: Device has power (12V/24V).
    • Flashing Blue/Green: Device is communicating or ready to pair.

4.Safety First: Ensure the communication cable is routed away from the brake and accelerator pedals to prevent accidents during a test drive.
